Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!

Here’s a little known fact that I don’t believe I’ve mentioned on the blog: I studied abroad in Brisbane, Australia during my junior year of college.  I “studied” for one semester at the University of Queensland, lived in a funky neighborhood called the West End with five other women from the US, and traveled on the weekends to places like Cairns (Great Barrier Reef jump off point), Sydney, Uluru, and New Zealand.

Not surprisingly, my time spent during those 6 months were one of the greatist experiences of my life. Life changing in many ways, and truly broadened my perspective on the world and how I view myself to this day.

I absolutely loved everything about Australian culture, particularly in Queensland, which is often described as “beautiful one day, perfect the next”. Sigh.

Visiting Uluru in 2005…(before I admitted to myself that eating french fries/pizza everyday was not a good idea)

Anyway, today, January 26th is Australia Day, and since this part of my life will always hold a special place in my heart, I thought it only right to celebrate with the national chant in the post title: Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!

Happy Australia Day to all of my readers from down under.  Have fun celebrating today, I’ll be sure to listen to the Hot 100 while celebrating from afar.  :-)

This Saturday morning was off to a nice slow start.

Breakfast: An Americano and some Plain Greek Yogurt with mixed fresh berries, raw rolled oats, chia seeds and cinnamon.

After finishing up a few errands around the apartment, I headed over to the gym for a quick one-mile warm up on the treadmill and then the “Butt Bustin’ Workout”, led by one of my new favorite group fitness instructors, Liz.

This chick is no-nonsense and always ready to push the limits. Her class is fast-paced and exciting, and I’ve never walked out of the class NOT completely drenched in sweat, I love it.

But let’s call a spade a spade here, people. If they are going to name the class something cute like “Butt Bustin’”, let’s be honest and just call it “A$$ Kickin’ Workout”. I think that would be a little more accurate.

I’m planning to spend the rest of the day working on some client training plans, preparing tomorrow’s Sunday Funday at Unite Fitness workout, run a few errands (read: spending too much money at Target).  After all of that, it’s time for some fun huddled around a fire pit at Steven Starr’s German beer hall, Frankford Hall, in Northern Liberties.

What if Guys and Girls swapped roles at the Gym?

One of my fellow Unite Coaches recently shared this hilarious video with me, click on the screenshot to check it out.

Protein

“You better be careful thought, because if you don’t do it 15 minutes after workouts, its not going to have the same effects”

“Ahhh you can taste the protein.”

I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. I studied abroad for my masters in England- there’s nothing like living in another country. I like to keep the memory alive by celebrating their holidays too :)

That video is hilarious! People can be so funny at the gym.
